Getting behind the wheel for the first time might seem quite daunting, but do not worry – no-one is expecting you to be driving through town just yet!

How to prepare for your first driving lesson
For your first driving lesson, you need to bring your provisional licence with you to show me that you are legally allowed to drive my car.

For all lessons try to wear something comfortable. Most importantly wear comfy, flat, non-slip shoes that have a thin sole so you can feel the controls properly. Try and wear the same pair for future lessons.

If you wear contact lenses or glasses, bring these too, we’ll ask you to read a licence plate from 20 metres, your examiner will also ask you to do this at the start of your driving test.

A bottle of water. You’ll be in the car for a couple of hours, so its important to stay hydrated.

What to expect on your first lesson?
Hopefully we will have had a chat on the phone a few days prior to our first lesson. This will have given me a chance to find out a little bit about you and what, if any, driving experience you may have had. This will help me to determine the correct level of instruction for your ability. For a completely new driver I will drive us to a suitable area where we can then swap seats and then introduce you to some of the controls of the car. By the end of the lesson you will hopefully have the basic knowledge of how to move off and stop safely.

Remember the car has dual controls which means I have a brake and clutch pedal on my side of the car. This is to help us stay safe and to also be used as a training aid when needed.
